Vanderbilt University plans charging station

Print | Front Page | Email this story

NASHVILLE (AP) — Vanderbilt University in Nashville is joining an effort to build an integrated solar-assisted electric vehicle charging station on campus.

Up to 10 cars will be able to charge at the station. It's part of a research project with the Electric Power Research Institute and the Tennessee Valley Authority.

The project is designed to help develop a larger infrastructure to support electric vehicles across the state. The station is projected to be completed in the first quarter of 2012. It is patterned after similar facilities at the research institute's Knoxville lab and one in Oak Ridge.

The Vanderbilt and Nashville communities will be able to use the facility for $1 per half hour.
