Statewide
State had 800,000 hits on consumer affairs website
NASHVILLE (AP) — The state of Tennessee had almost 800,000 hits last year on the website for the Consumer Affairs Division of the Department of Commerce and Insurance.
Consumer Affairs Director Gary Cordell said the figure represents "a lot of people looking for information."
Meanwhile, the division has announced that such complaints can now be filed with a click of a smartphone. Owners of such phones can download a free barcode scanner application to use with Quick Response Codes.
Taking a photo of the codes, on magazines, business cards and other places, will link users to the division website or consumer complaint form.
Cordell said the division is among the first of its kind in the country to use this technology.
