New apps help visitors get around

Two recently launched mobile phone apps should ease the way for tourists and locals out for a good time.

The Nashville Convention & Visitors Bureau’s (NCVB) developed Nashville Live Music Guide App, the first city-wide live music guide in Nashville. The free app provides users a search for music by area, venue name and who’s playing at each venue. The guide was previously available for download on iPhone only, but became available on the Droid last month.

“People come to Nashville because they want to experience the live music played here every night,” says Butch Spyridon, president and CEO of the NCVB. “We want to make it easy for them to find the music. With 120 venues included in the app, you don’t have to be a music insider to know all the best places to hear Nashville’s amazing live music.”

Users download the application by searching “Nashville Live Music.” The app’s calendar will search live events up to 14 days with a rotating “featured events” section that includes big concerts taking place in the city.

The guide also maps local venues, allows users to listen to and/or download songs and has a store from which they can purchase Music City merchandise.

Also aimed at smoothing the Nashville experience is the Parkmobile app from Parkmobile USA Inc. The app is connected with Premier Parking, Nashville’s second largest parking provider with about 70 locations including the Pinnacle at Symphony Place Garage, the Public Square Garage, the Nashville Zoo, the Gulch, Cummins Station parking facilities and the 2525 West End garage.

Nashville’s first parking app allows users to conduct parking transactions by iPhone, Android and/or Blackberry smartphones.

To use the new Parkmobile system, customers register for free at www.parkmobile.com. They can then use the mobile phone app, Internet or call 877-727-5015 to pay for parking. Additionally, motorists can select an option to receive text message alerts and reminders.

“Parkmobile users now have 24/7 access to their online account, and they can print reports and easily track their parking expenses. It’s much faster and more convenient,” says Albert Bogaard, CEO of Parkmobile.
