August Auto Sales: Nissan up 19.2 percent

FRANKLIN (AP) — Nissan North America Inc. said Thursday that its August U.S. sales rose 19.2 percent on strong demand for its top-selling Altima sedan.

BY THE NUMBERS: Nissan sold 91,541 new vehicles in August, up from 76,827 in the same month last year.

TOP SELLER: Altima sales rose 24.5 percent to 23,016 from 18,491.

HOT MODELS: Demand for the Frontier pickup truck jumped 29.6 percent to 4,843, while sales of the Pathfinder sport utility vehicle rose 29.6 percent to 2,093. The automaker sold 1,362 of its new Leaf electric vehicle and 3,464 of the Juke crossover.
