NASHVILLE (AP) — The Metro Nashville School Board has voted unanimously to start the 2012-13 school year on Aug. 1 under a "balanced calendar" approach.

Under the schedule, fall break would be Oct. 11-12 and the first semester would end Dec. 19. Spring break would be March 25-29, and the school year would end May 24.

There also would be built-in dates for enrichment and extra help.
