NASHVILLE (AP) — Two political parties have filed a federal lawsuit in Nashville, claiming state law makes it too hard for them to get candidates on the ballot.

The lawsuit by the Green Party of Tennessee and the Constitution Party of Tennessee says recent changes in statute mandated by the court don't go far enough to ensure access to voters.

The lawsuit was filed last week in U.S. District Court in Nashville, according to The Tennessean.

After a ruling last year, Republicans and Democrats in the Tennessee General Assembly passed a law that drops a requirement that signers of petitions have to be members of the party circulating them. The statute also allows 15 more days for petitions to be filed.

Major parties don't have to petition to get on the ballot.
