Nashville codifies personal use of city cars
NASHVILLE (AP) — In the wake of a government official's resignation to avoid prosecution, the Metro Nashville Council has voted to make policy on personal use of city vehicles part of the law.
The legislation approved Tuesday night codifies Metro policy on how vehicles are used, specifically barring using them to transport family members, friends, alcohol and campaign literature, according to The Tennessean.
The move came after WSMV-TV's investigation into former Davidson County Criminal Court Clerk David Torrence's attendance at work and his use of a city car for personal errands. Torrence resigned on Friday after the Council passed a resolution calling for his resignation and the district attorney general began an investigation of his office.
Ordinance sponsor CharlieTygard noted that what Torrence did was against city policy, but not against the law.
