NASHVILLE (AP) — The Hermitage, the home of President Andrew Jackson, had more than $521,000 in donations during its just completed fiscal year.

Hermitage officials said in its July newsletter that the money enabled it to complete major preservation projects and expand both education and tour offerings.

They said they faced challenging obstacles in fundraising because of severe flooding that cut into the finances of the Nashville community in May 2010.

The Hermitage, a National Historic Landmark, has more than 30 historic buildings on its 1,120-acre site east of downtown Nashville. It has 180,000 annual visitors and is a Smithsonian Institution Affiliate Museum.
