Lisa Ramsay Cole, an attorney with the law firm Lewis, King, Krieg and Waldrop, P.C., for more than 18 years, has been named managing partner of the firm’s Nashville office.

Cole has an active law practice in the areas of employment law, workers’ compensation, medical malpractice and general casualty defense. She also is very active in the Nashville civic community where she is chair-elect of the Board of the Sexual Assault Center, among other involvements.

“This appointment makes Lisa one of only a few women in our state to hold such a position in a law firm of our size,” said Deborah Stevens, president and managing shareholder of the firm, which has offices in Knoxville, Nashville and Sevierville. “We selected Lisa for this position because of the leadership capabilities she has shown in her law practice and in her community activities,” Stevens said.

Lewis King is the 14th largest law firm in Nashville and the largest in Knoxville. It is the ninth largest law firm in Tennessee.

Cole joined the firm after her first year of law school and has remained with Lewis King as an attorney since she graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1993. Prior to attending law school, she graduated cum laude from Bethel College with a bachelor of science degree in natural sciences.

Cole is a member of the American Bar Association and its Tort and Insurance Practice Section, the Tennessee Bar Association and the Nashville Bar Association. She is a fellow of the Nashville Bar Foundation and is a graduate of Tennessee’s Leadership Law Program.

Land Trust hires philanthropy director

Jeanie Nelson, president and executive director of The Land Trust for Tennessee, has announced the hiring of Melinda Scruggs Gales as the organization’s director of philanthropy. Gales joins the non-profit, which recently surpassed more than 60,000 acres of land preserved in 48 counties across Tennessee.

Gales was formerly chief strategist for The Gales Network, a marketing and brand management firm focused on growing businesses. Her experience includes executive positions with O’Neil Hagaman, PLLC, the Warner/Elektra/Atlantic Corp, and Reunion Records.

New members were welcomed this month to the board of directors for The Land Trust for Tennessee. Serving three-year terms beginning this fiscal year:

n Don Taylor, (Nashville) community leader. Taylor’s background includes building both domestic and international companies in the finance and healthcare industries. He was a previous COO/ EVP for Healthways, Inc., and he has been active in numerous philanthropic activities.

n Ellen Moore, (Chattanooga) community leader. Moore has served on numerous non-profit boards including the PTA, Garden Club of Lookout Mountain, Girls Inc., and Baylor School. She counts her role as mother of four and time as a youth leader as her greatest accomplishments.

YWCA Academy names 2011 honorees

Seven Nashville women have been announced as inductees into the 2011 Academy for Women of Achievement today. These women will be honored at the 20th annual Academy for Women of Achievement celebration and induction dinner, presented by YWCA of Nashville & Middle Tennessee and First Tennessee, on Oct. 25.

The 2011 honorees are:

Meharry Medical College has been selected as the 2011 corporate honoree. Corporate honorees are chosen based on their commitment to helping women enter the work force and advance in their careers, and for providing a positive work environment for female employees.

The Academy for Women of Achievement was launched locally in 1992 by the YWCA of Nashville & Middle Tennessee. The Academy honors women who, through excellence and leadership in their chosen fields, serve as role models for other women. This year’s recipients join 111 other women who hold this distinctive honor.

The YWCA helps families leave abusive households and start new lives. It provides free GED preparation to men and women, and mentors middle school girls in some of Nashville’s toughest neighborhoods. The YWCA is dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.

Finch honored with Silver Antelope Award

John D. Finch, CEO of PBG Builders, Inc., was presented the prestigious Silver Antelope Award by the Boy Scouts of America during the organization’s recent national annual meeting in San Diego. The Silver Antelope Award is a national award given to volunteers who have given noteworthy service of exceptional character to youth.

Finch, who was a Scout as a youth, has served for more than 17 years as a volunteer adult leader with Boy Scouts of America (BSA). He has served the Middle Tennessee Council as a Friends of Scouting committee member and a Council division chair, capital campaign committee chair for a $2.7 million campaign, a Latimer High Adventure Reservation construction member, and vice president of membership. He has also served as a Southern Regional Executive Board member, the Area Six president, the Southern Region executive vice president, and as a member of the visitation team for the BSA’s Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, the largest youth camp in the world. His Scouting honors include the Silver Beaver Award. He is a Brotherhood member of the Wa-Hi-Nasha Lodge Order of the Arrow and a member of the Wood Badge course SR-932.

Finch also has served as a member of the Board of Trustees at Martin Methodist College, president of the Associated General Contractors of Tennessee, and a member of the National Associated General Contractors Executive Board. He is a member of the East Tennessee State University Board of Visitors and the Chamber of Commerce. Finch has served as mayor of Goodlettsville, TN and currently is a city commissioner.

Centennial’s selects Campbell as new CMO

F.J. Campbell, M.D., is the new chief medical officer for Centennial Medical Center.

Prior to joining Centennial Medical Center, Campbell served as medical director of operations at Voorhees Hospital, a Virtua Health hospital in Voorhees, New Jersey, and had recently been overseeing orientation of the medical staff to a new hospital while trying to minimize the impact on patient care.

In his current role at Centennial Medical Center, Campbell will be responsible for overseeing the medical affairs of Centennial Medical Center and for the supervision of staff operations of the Medical Staff Office and the Center for Research and Education. Dr. Campbell will play a significant role in quality and utilization analysis, pathway development, and working to improve physician practice patterns and improving physician relations, in addition to serving as an active member of the hospital’s administrative team.

Campbell received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and completed an internship in general surgery and a residency in emergency medicine at Cooper Hospital in Camden, N.J. He also received his MBA from the Fox Business School at Temple University.

Nashville’s Top 30 Under 30 recognizes the city’s most active young professionals and philanthropists while benefiting the CFF. Honorees were nominated by co-workers, friends and family for their charitable and professional endeavors. The top 30 honorees were then selected by the Top 30 Under 30 selection committee during the month of June.

Schuller is new director at Aquinas

Sister Mary Sarah Galbraith, O.P., president of Aquinas College in Nashville, has promoted Jeanne (Rickey) Chick Schuller, J.D., an alumna of the College who has served as its director of Community and Alumni Relations since January.

Ms. Schuller was promoted to director of development and community relations, responsible for annual fund, major gifts, and other fundraising efforts along with the supervision of the Office of Alumni Relations. She will oversee the College’s biannual lecture series, national conferences, local community service projects, and the other community programs.

A native of Nashville who graduated from Aquinas College in 1977, Ms. Schuller earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and her law degree from the Nashville School of Law.
