NASHVILLE (AP) — The chairwoman of the Senate Education Committee has withdrawn legislation to reject the appointment of three members of the Tennessee Board of Regents after one of them resigned.

Republican Sen. Delores Gresham of Somerville was critical of the members for not appearing before the committee last year in regard to the search process for a new chancellor.

The board was criticized for selecting John Morgan, then deputy to the governor, after rewriting the job qualifications to fit his education level and experience and after interviewing only Morgan from among six applicants.

Agenia Clark led the Regents' search committee. Gresham said Wednesday the search was flawed and drew "national, negative attention" on Tennessee. She said she's satisfied with Clark's resignation.

Clark could not be reached for comment.
