SPRING HILL (AP) — The Spring Hill Board of Mayor and Aldermen has rejected a request to rezone 725 acres for a theme park.

Officials said they had not received credible plans from the developer, Dennis W. Peterson, CEO of Big International Group of Entertainment Inc. In February he had announced plans for a 1,000-acre project that he said would create 15,000-20,000 new jobs.

According to The Daily Herald, Peterson has not returned multiple calls from reporters seeking comment since February, including a phone message left Tuesday.

Peterson has said financial help or tax breaks from the city, county or state was not needed.

The state's other major theme park, Dollywood, is in Pigeon Forge. The old Opryland USA theme park in nearby Nashville closed in 1997 after 22 seasons.
