NASHVILLE (AP) — A revised proposal that would require the Tennessee Board of Education to review what's being taught in schools regarding sexuality is headed for a Senate floor vote.

The measure sponsored by Republican Sen. Stacey Campfield of Knoxville was approved 6-3 by the Senate Education Committee on Wednesday and will now be scheduled for a vote by the full Senate.

Campfield says currently it's not clear what can be taught and is fearful something other than heterosexuality might be. His original proposal would have allowed parents to decide what's "age appropriate," but the bill was amended to let the state review school curriculum.

The companion bill has been taken off notice in a similar committee in the House, but could be revived.
