Long-time art entrepreneur Ron York is opening York & Friends Fine Art Gallery off Harding Road in the former Made In France location.

Favorite local artists to be featured at the new York & Friends Fine Art Gallery include Jennifer Padgett, Lassie McDonald Crowder, Marilyn Farnsworth Wendling, Danny Phifer, Jade Reynolds, Beth Affolter, Marabeth Quin, Lee Hamblen and Vicki Sawyer as well as Alabama artist Lorrie Lane, Memphis artist Vicki Shipley, Gina Cochran of Virginia and Cate Christen of Connecticut. Tom Turnbull’s pottery and Ben Caldwell’s copper serving pieces along with artwork of owner, Ron York. There will be a rotation of other York & Friends artists.

York first began his art brokerage business with Tennessee’s poet laureate Maggi Vaughn in the historic Bell Buckle area. He continues to make his team of artists available in Belle Meade Shoppes Antiques and Interiors, Hanging Around, Inc. on 8th Avenue, Market Central in Memphis and Laurel Leaf Gallery in Leiper’s Fork.

Elrod named among 70 best knee surgeons

Dr. Burton Elrod, an orthopedic surgeon who practices with Elite Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center and is affiliated with Baptist Sports Medicine, has been named among 70 of the Best Knee Surgeons, according to Becker’s Orthopedic & Spine Review magazine. He is the only Tennessee surgeon to be named to the list.

Dr. Elrod, who serves as the head team physician for the Tennessee Titans and Lipscomb University and works closely with David Lipscomb High School, specializes in sports-related injuries and arthroscopic surgery of the knee, shoulder and elbow.

Physicians named to the list were selected based on awards they received from major organizations in the field, leadership in those organizations, work on professional publications and positions of service at hospitals and surgery centers. All physicians who are placed on the list undergo substantial review from Becker’s Orthopedic & Spine editorial staff and industry leaders. Physicians do not pay and cannot pay to be selected as a best physician.

A native of Centerville, Dr. Elrod attended David Lipscomb University for his undergraduate degree. He received his medical degree from the University of Tennessee. After completing his orthopedic residency at the University of Tennessee, Dr. Elrod continued his post-graduate studies with a fellowship in Sports Medicine at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Foundation.

Eskind Moses named 2010 Super Lawyer

Marlene Eskind Moses, founder and partner with the law firm of Moses Townsend & Russ PLLC, has been named to the 2010 listing of Mid-South Super Lawyers. Moses was recognized for her work in the practice area of family law. 2010 is the fifth consecutive year Moses has been listed in Super Lawyers.

Haverstick to serve on child safety board

Sarah Haverstick, Safe Children Program Manager at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, has been selected to serve on the National Child Passenger Safety Board.During her three-year term, Haverstick will work with other board members to provide oversight for the National Child Passenger Safety Certification Training Program and to ensure the quality and integrity of training and certification of technicians and instructors. The 21-member panel represents national, state and local agencies in the fields of health, injury prevention, law enforcement, insurance, medicine and child safety seat and automobile manufacturers.At Children’s Hospital, Haverstick manages all child safety outreach and education initiatives.

Young Leaders Council announces 55 graduates

Young Leaders Council, a Nashville-based nonprofit organization that has trained more than 1,800 men and women to effectively participate on the boards of nonprofit agencies for the past 25 years, announces the graduates of Class 55.
