Packers at Titans: What to watch
By Terry McCormick
Packers (1-1) at Titans (0-2)
Sunday, September 22
Noon, Nissan Stadium, Nashville
TV: FOX Radio: 104.5 The Zone
The Titans have managed to give away two winnable games to start the season and now face what is really a must-win situation Sunday when the Green Bay Packers come to town. Here are four keys to accomplishing that.
First down
Stop turning the ball over. Quarterback Will Levis has been the chief culprit when it comes to turnovers, but this message goes to the entire offense that the football cannot be put into harm’s way. It is literally the difference right now between a winless Titans team and one that could be 2-0.
Second down
Fix the special teams. It has lingered from one regime to the next, but the Titans have had punt blocked in each of Ryan Stonehouse’s last three games, plus the play where he didn’t get the punt off but was tackled and suffered a season-ending injury in 2023. Whether he is holding the ball too long in his windup or the blocking schemes are failing, it has to be corrected ASAP.
Third down
Get some takeaways. Dennard Wilson’s defense has been solid in the first two games, but it needs to force turnovers, which could help the offense dramatically. The Titans have forced only one turnover all season, and that was on a kickoff, meaning the defense does not have a single takeaway through two weeks.
Fourth down
Use your advantage. The Titans should know Malik Willis’ strengths and weaknesses better than any team. That should be an edge the Titans defense can use to help secure a win.
