Battle of Nashville: 159th anniversary. The Battle of Nashville saw thousands of soldiers fight across much of west and south Nashville. The Fort Negley Visitors Center will have presentations on sites that witnessed key moments in the last major battle in the Civil War’s Western theater. Thursday, 10-10:40 a.m.- Sunnyside Mansion: In Between Lines, Brandon Hulette, lecturer in Ameri-can Studies, Vanderbilt University; 10:45-11:25 a.m., the Civil War at Belmont Mansion, Myers Brown, executive director, Belmont Mansion; 11:30 a.m-12:10 p.m., General Hood’s Headquarters at Travellers Rest, Andy Blair, director of education, interpretation and outreach, Travellers Rest Historic House Museum. Marshmallow Hikes
The annual Marshmallow and Hot Chocolate Hikes take place on select dates in De-cember and January at 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., and 1 p.m. Owl’s Hill Nature Sanctuary, 545 Beech Creek Road South. Spend time with family and friends during a pleasant hike in the wintery woods followed by roasted marshmallows and hot chocolate. Tickets are $11 in advance, $13 day of, per hiker (children 2 and younger are free). Additional dates: Dec. 22-23, 27-30, Jan. 6, 13, 20. Arrive 10 minutes before your hike time. Hikes are approximately 30-60 minutes, with two levels of difficulty levels. Information
Winter Solstice Celebration
Celebrate the beginning of winter and the longest night of the year during this annual event featuring wreath making, a luminary trail through the forest, campfires, s’more, astronomy, music and much more.
