The importance of a solid start for the Preds
It sounds weird because 82 games is a long season but US Thanksgiving, Nov. 23, is an “unofficial” marker in the NHL season.
Despite most teams not even playing a quarter of their games by the fourth Thursday in November, the standings on Thanksgiving give fans a pretty solid look at the playoff field.
In the 2022-23 season, 13 of the 16 playoff teams were sitting in playoff spots. The Preds were in sixth place in the Central Division and were tied with St. Louis, Minnesota and Edmonton for the second wild card spot. Minnesota and Edmonton would go on to make the playoffs.
Nashville will have 16 games before Thanksgiving after opening the season in Tampa and then hosting Seattle.
