NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee State Museum will be showing a free screening of a documentary about legendary Tennessee State University track and field coach Ed Temple and 40 female athletes who broke the color barrier at the 1960 Olympics.

"Mr. Temple and the Tigerbelles" will be shown at the museum from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Registration is through Eventbrite or TNMuseum.org/calendar-of-events .

The Tigerbelles earned 23 medals from the Rome games, including 16 golds. Wilma Rudolph became the first American to win three gold medals in a single Olympics. All of the women earned bachelor's degrees, with many earning master's degrees and doctorates.

The film was written, produced and directed by Academy Award-nominated Middle Tennessee State University film professor Tom Neff.
