NASHVILLE (AP) — A former Tennessee broadcaster who was recently inducted into the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame has died. He was 77.

David Milstead, known as David Tower to listeners, died at home after suffering from multiple illnesses. The medical examiner's office said he died July 28.

Milstead was originally from Texas. He moved to Nashville and started with WMAK-AM in 1969 as a news reader. He became news director within a year. He later worked in real estate for 32 years.

He belonged to the Society of Professional Journalists, serving as Middle Tennessee president for a term, and was named to the Governor's Commission on the Status of Women by former Gov. Winfield Dunn.

Survivors include his sister, Carolyn Elyanow, and brother, Manuel Milstead, both of Texas.
