Fifth Third Bank names Hays area sales manager

Fifth Third Bank has named Greg Hays as vice president and mortgage area sales manager for the Tennessee market.

In this role, Hays will manage the existing mortgage team and lead Fifth Third’s plan to expand the mortgage team in the Nashville market.

Hays brings more than 20 years of experience in the consumer mortgage business. He previously served as mortgage manager for Suntrust and Fidelity Bank.

He serves on the board of the Nashville Mortgage Bankers Association and recently served on the Lender Advisory Board of Tennessee Housing Development Agency.

Fifth Third also has hired Tracee Smith as a vice president and community economic development manager for Tennessee and Georgia regions. In this role, Smith collaborates with community and business leaders to deliver holistic solutions to address our community’s most important needs.

Smith brings more than 12 years of financial services experience to the position. Most recently, she was a community development manager serving East Tennessee with First Tennessee Bank.

Fifth Third Bank also has made three additions and promoted one in its commercial lending team. They are:

Jacklyn Claire, who has been promoted to treasury management officer. In this role, she will focus on delivering information and working capital management solutions. Claire brings more than five years of financial service experience to this position, including participation in Fifth Third Bank’s Commercial Leadership Program. Most recently, she was a commercial relationship manager with Fifth Third Bank. She earned a degree in business management, marketing and finance from the University of Cincinnati.

Kenneth Crapse, hired as assistant vice president and commercial relationship manager. Crapse has five-plus years of financial services experience and holds a degree in economics and finance from the University of Louisville.

Leslie Horne, hired as vice president and regional closing manager for the commercial middle market group of Tennessee. Horne brings 23 years of banking experience, including 17 years in commercial financial services to Fifth Third Bank.

Tom Feeney, hired as senior vice president and commercial relationship manager. Feeney brings more than 25 years of financial services experience to Fifth Third Bank. He is a graduare of Clemson University with a degree in management and finance.

Fisher is recipient of Leadership Award

The Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence has selected Donald C. Fisher, Ph.D., executive director/CEO of the Mid-South Quality/Productivity Center, as the recipient of the 2018 Ned R. McWherter Leadership Award.

Fisher has served as a judge for numerous regional quality awards programs including TNCPE, the Robert W. Carey Performance Excellence Award, the Arizona State Quality Award, the Commonwealth of Kentucky Quality Award and the Greater Memphis Award for Quality, among others.

He was an examiner for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award and serves on the board of the Alliance for Performance Excellence.

The McWherter Award is named after the 46th governor of Tennessee, who was instrumental in TNCPE’s founding in 1993. Ned McWherter’s support for the program acknowledged the value of the Baldrige Excellence Framework as an integral tool that can help Tennessee businesses and organizations thrive.

MAPCO names C-store veteran to CEO post

MAPCO, an owner of nearly 350 convenience stores located throughout the Southeast, has appointed Charles (Hal) Adams as CEO. The announcement was made by Frederic Chaveyriat, who served as interim CEO during the search and remains executive vice president of MAPCO’s board of directors.

Adams joins MAPCO with nearly 30 years of extensive experience in convenience store operations, marketing, merchandising and strategy. He began his career as a night shift associate working his way up to his most recent position as president of retail operations at CST Brands, a Fortune 200 international C-store chain with more than 2,000 stores and 13,000 employees.

Friends of Warner Parks adds 5 board members

The board of directors of Friends of Warner Parks has recently announced the addition of five new board members, each serving two-year terms expiring Dec. 31, 2019. They are:

Katherine Higgins “Kat” DeLay, an active civic leader who served as director of Sherman-Dixie Concrete Industries, Inc., 1993-2016. She is a former member of the City of Oak Hill Planning Commission.

Hayes Hitchens, who founded Moondance, an adventure travel company for teens. A graduate of the University of Alabama, Hayes served The Lovett School in Atlanta for 12 years as the dean of students and the director of summer programs.

Chuck Smith, president of Swiftwick, a Brentwood-based business that produces high-performance socks. He previously worked at Mattingly Sports for six years, the last three as vice president of operations and R&D.

Susan Weathersby, who served as co-chairman of the 2017 Sunday in the Park, a record-breaking year for the annual fundraiser.

Govan White, who is the great-grandson of Percy Warner. He is the co-founder and principal of Covenant Capital Group and is responsible for managing the corporate activities of the firm, including finance, accounting, investor relations, transaction structuring and asset management. Prior to forming Covenant Capital Group in 2001, he was a managing director with Solidus Company.

Also, Holly Clark and Ivy Pierce are serving as board interns from the Young Leaders Council. Tommy Lynch, retired director of Metro Parks and Recreation, has joined the advisory board this year.

MTSU’s Apigian honored by Nashville Tech Council

MTSU professor Charlie Apigian, chair of the Department of Computer Information Systems, has been named this year’s recipient of the “Community Leader of the Year” award presented by the Nashville Technology Council.

Apigian, who bested two other finalists for the community leader award, thanked the university, the Jones College of Business and his department for allowing him “to go out and tell our story.”

MTSU’s Department of Computer Information Systems offers a bachelor’s of business administration in information systems; a master’s in information systems with concentrations in business intelligence and analytics, IT project management, information system security and assurance, and general information systems; a minor in information systems; and an accelerate bachelor’s and master’s program.

Young Leaders Council announces 2018 board

Young Leaders Council, a Nashville-based nonprofit organization that has trained more than 2,500 men and women to participate on the boards of nonprofit agencies for the past 33 years, has announced its board of directors for 2018.

Elected officers are Santi Tefel, Pinnacle Financial Partners, chair; Joshua Livingston, Fifth Third Bank, chair-elect; Cyrus Farhangi, Correct Care Solutions, treasurer; and Sarah Rochford Benfield, HCA Healthcare, secretary.

Phoenix Club announces new members, 2018 board

The Phoenix Club of Nashville recently elected its 2018 board of directors, naming 18 members in leadership roles, and welcomed 28 new members. Throughout 2017, the charity organization raised more than $300,000 for youth organizations in Middle Tennessee under the leadership of former President Chip Howorth.

Since being established in 2001, The Phoenix Club has raised more than $1.8 million in support of local, underserved children.

Union Station’s Carter’s hires new executive chef

Jim O’Connor has been hired as executive chef at Carter’s in Union Station Hotel.

Born and raised in New York, O’Connor attended the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park and worked under David Burke at Manhattan’s Donatella while still in school.

He most recently worked as executive sous chef at Nashville’s Pinewood Social and executive chef of The Honeysuckle Local and Social in Cool Springs.
