ASHLAND CITY (AP) — A former Tennessee jailer has been charged with assaulting an inmate with a stun gun.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said 39-year-old Mark Bryant of Clarksville was arrested Wednesday and held on $75,000 bond.

The TBI said in a news release that Bryant was working as a jailer for the Cheatham County sheriff's department last November when an inmate became violent and was restrained. The release said Bryant is accused of using a stun gun on the inmate at least four times.

A Cheatham County grand jury indicted Bryant on Tuesday, charging him with aggravated assault and official misconduct.

The Tennessean reported that Sheriff Michael Breedlove said Bryant had been terminated.

Jail records didn't indicate whether Bryant was represented by a lawyer who could comment on the case.
