First Saturday Art Crawl

The monthly visual arts event is presented by 5th Avenue of the Arts and takes place in that historic entertainment district of downtown Nashville. On the first Saturday of every month, 6 p.m.-9 p.m., an alliance of art galleries and museums collectively invite the public to explore the vibrant Nashville downtown art scene. River Swing

A festive evening under the stars on the banks of the Harpeth River at the pastoral Fairpath Farm in Williamson County to benefit the Harpeth River and Clean Water in Tennessee. A Vintage Affair Grape Stomp Festival

Teams compete to collect the most juice at the end of a four-minute stomp and earn a spot in the finals, where the top three teams will compete to be the Grape Stomp champion. Members of the winning team will receive a half of a case of wine as reward for their stomping talent. T-shirts or creative costumes are strongly encouraged, and there will be awards for best costumes throughout the event. The cost to sponsor a team of five is $500, and up to 30 teams will be assembled. Those wishing to enjoy the event from the sidelines may purchase general admission tickets for $50. Musicians Corner

A series of free music events at Centennial Park. Events will take place from noon-5 p.m. on the 25th Avenue side of Centennial Park near the band shell. In addition to music, each date features Kidsville, a mix of Nashville’s best food trucks, Dogville, local artisans, featured charity partners and the Musicians Corner Pub. Dates and performers:

Fall Fest at Green Door Gourmet

The family-friendly event features live music, hayrides, pumpkin games, renown pumpkin carving artist Lundy Cupp, a pumpkin house where visitors can pick their own pumpkins, a giant tube slide, a hay ride village, a bird banding workshop and the Kids Zone, featuring Mr. Steve. Live music begins at Noon with John England, followed by a Magic Show at 2 p.m., Derek Hoke at 3 p.m., Date Night at 4 p.m., and Heath Haynes & the High Dollars at 5 p.m. Noon-6 p.m., 7011 River Road in Nashville. Downtown Employee Appreciation Week

The week will be dedicated to celebrating the more than 55,000 downtown employees with a series of activities throughout the central business district. Coffee, food, prizes, music, games and more. To take advantage of these perks, please fasten a paper clip to your collar, lapel or pocket to receive giveaways and discounts. Work ID cards and business cards are also acceptable. Activities:

  • Monday: Fresh and Local at the Nashville Farmers’ Market. 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. Downtown workers will be able to fill up a complimentary bag of freshly harvested produce from Smiley’s Farm, accompanied by live music.
  • Tuesday: Praline Party at Savannah’s Candy Kitchen: All downtown employees who stop by the Broadway store will received a complimentary praline. 310 Broadway, 2-3 p.m.
  • Wednesday. Nashville’s Largest Coffee Break: 9:30-10:30 p.m. Stop by any of these participating coffee shops for a free cup of coffee during this downtown-wide coffee break:

Meet at Church Street Park, 600 Church Street, by the bike racks titled Emerge. 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Explore downtown’s public art collection by taking a guided walk with a local artist to learn about the artworks and the artists who made them. The walk will last approximately 45 minutes. Complimentary box lunches will be available after the walk for those who register ([email protected]) and participate.

WEDNESDAY, OCT. 7

Breakfast for Progress

The inaugural event will include a keynote address from Donald Stinnett, senior vice president and controller of HCA. HCA, Maurice Pinson and Patricia W. Wallace will be honored at the breakfast for their important contributions to the mission of the organization. Malli Hart Richmond and Jane Hart Keesee serve as honorary chairs. Progress has been serving the Nashville area for more than 40 years and provides a variety of services to people with intellectual disabilities and seniors. All proceeds will fund vital services for people with intellectual disabilities and seniors. 7:30-8:45 a.m. at the Scarritt Bennett Center. Information: www.Progress-Inc.org.

MONDAY, OCT. 12

Young Leaders Council 30th Anniversary Celebration Dinner

Phil Bredesen, former Tennessee Governor and Nashville mayor, will be the featured speaker. Bredesen also is the author of “Fresh Medicine: How to Fix Reform and Build a Sustainable Health Care System” and is a frequent speaker to national audiences on health care, political leadership and other topics. Vanderbilt Hotel, 2100 West End Avenue. $60 for the dinner and program or $600 for a sponsorship table of 10.
