The Founders, the Evolution of America and the Road to Civil War

The Battle of Franklin Trust will kick off its free lecture series at 6 p.m. in the Fleming Center. CEO Eric Jacobson and Franklin Civil War Roundtable founder Greg Wade will lead the discussion. Jacobson, with Wade facilitating, will discuss how America transformed from the time of its founding to the mid-19th century and ultimately why the country spiraled toward Civil War. Nashville Japanese Film Festival

From horror to anime to documentaries, Japanese film is known for its inventive storylines and beautiful cinematography. In its second year, the Nashville Japanese Film Festival aims to bring a wide range of Japanese films to both seasoned veterans and those brand new to foreign films. The festival will take place at the Watkins College of Art, Design & Film, beginning with a reception at 6 p.m. on August 28. There will be eight films over three days. General admission is $10 per film, with four being shown free of charge with the support of the Japan Foundation and the Consulate-General of Japan in Nashville.
