NALS After Hours Silent Auction

The Nashville chapter of NALS, the association for legal professionals, will host its second annual NALS After Hours Silent Auction event at 6 p.m. at Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell and Berkowitz, PC, 211 Commerce Street, Suite 800 in Nashville. Summer of Street Food

A gathering of 15 to 20 local food trucks. This event will take place every other Thursday through August 21. Trucks will be parked on Deaderick Street between 4th Avenue North and 5th Avenue North. Information: www.nashvillefoodtruckassociation.com/

Summer People’s Law School

People’s Law School is a free program that provides an overview of legal issues that a typical person might face. Taught by Legal Aid Society attorneys and volunteer attorneys, the weekly, one-hour classes will be held 6-7 p.m. on Thursdays at Cohn Learning Center, 4805 Park Ave., and at Wright Middle School, 180 McCall St. Complete schedule:

  • July 10: Renter’s Rights. Learn your legal rights as a renter and how to assert them, what to look for in a lease, how to get your landlord to make repairs and more. This class will be held in Room 112. (Cohn)
  • July 10: Social Security Options. How to apply for and get Social Security retirement, disability, spouse and child payments, Medicare health insurance, Supplemental Security Income disability and old age payments. (Wright)
  • July 17: Medicaid for Nursing Home Care and Home Care. Covers how to get TennCare/Medicaid to pay for home and community-based services or care in a nursing home. (Cohn)
  • July 17: Basics of Consumer Bankruptcy. Explains the different kinds of bankruptcy, who qualifies for them, what bankruptcy can and cannot do and tips on choosing a bankruptcy lawyer. (Wright)
