Free Workshop on Tennessee’s Folk Traditions

From hog killings to sorghum making to wash days to building railroads and banjos, the old ways of life in our communities have been passed down from generation to generation. Fortunately, these traditions of the past are not lost. The Tennessee State Library & Archives holds a vast collection of material about them. Carnton Plantation Movie Night

The Battle of Franklin Trust has announced the dates for a movie night series, featuring family-friendly films on the east lawn at Carnton Plantation. Gates open one hour prior to the feature presentation. Guests are invited to arrive early to set up chairs, blankets and picnic on the east lawn before the movie begins at sunset. Food and non-alcoholic beverages are permitted and additional food and drinks will be available for purchase, including food trucks and beer vendors. Pets, tents and grills are not permitted. Music City Hot Wing Festival

Cumberland Park will host the largest hot wing festival in the South, Noon-8 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will benefit The Bootstraps Foundation, which offers college scholarships for youth in Middle Tennessee who persevere in the face of adversity. Hot wing and grilling enthusiasts will showcase their skills for a shot at bragging rights and a $2,500 cash prize for first place and $750 cash prize for the People’s Choice Award. The competition will be judged by the Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS)-certified judges. The festival will also honor one competitor with the inaugural “Green Team Award,” to support our efforts to build a more sustainable festival experience. The winner will take home a $500 cash prize.
