Williamson County is playing host to 1,960 athletes ages 50 and older from across the state for the 32nd annual Tennessee Senior Olympics State Finals presented by BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee. Fairgrounds Master Plan Phase 1 Open House

The State Fairgrounds master plan is in its first phase as Metro identifies facilities needed for a successful state fair and a year-round schedule of events. On July 23, Metro staff and consultants will provide updates on preliminary studies conducted as part of the master plan and receive comments and suggestions from stakeholders, neighbors and the general public. The meeting will be held 5-8 p.m. in the Sonny West Conference Center in the Howard Office Building, 700 Second Avenue South. Author and Civil War student Lee Ann Newton of Murfreesboro will present a program titled “Serving Uncle Sam: The Civil War Memoirs of Erastus Winter” at Fort Negley. The 7 p.m. event is sponsored by Fort Donelson Camp #62, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War of Middle Tennessee. Erastus Winters was a corporal in Company “K” of the 50th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He survived the Battles of Perryville, the Atlanta Campaign, and Franklin, imprisonment at Cohaba Prison, only to nearly lose his life on the explosion of the Sultana, the worst maritime disaster in American history. Battle of Franklin Trust 2012 Summer Concert Series

The Battle of Franklin Trust, which manages The Carter House and Carnton Plantation, will host a three-part concert series at Carnton, 1345 Carnton Lane, Franklin, presented by BancorpSouth.
