OSHA Training. Participants will have the opportunity to learn basic construction safety skills over two full days and receive government-issued Occupational Safety Health Administration 10 hour training cards. This course is required before advanced skills trainings.

32nd annual Tennessee Senior Olympics

Williamson County is playing host to 1,960 athletes ages 50 and older from across the state for the 32nd annual Tennessee Senior Olympics State Finals presented by BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee. Events include swimming, track and field, horseshoes, table tennis, bowling, badminton, tennis, basketball, archery, racquetball, cycling, volleyball, softball, shuffleboard, bowling, badminton, tennis, golf, pickleball,10K and 5K runs, a fitness walk and a one-mile power walk at various facilities, including Battle Ground Academy, the Indoor Sports Complex, Franklin Recreation Center and Franklin Entertainment Center. Perils and Pitfalls of the Workplace Romance

When Cupid strikes in the workplace, should Human Resources be concerned? The answer to this question is very simple: Yes! Dealing with workplace romances can be complicated. This session of Baker Donelson’s Third Thursday Labor & Employment Law Breakfast Briefings series will discuss the issues that all Human Resources professionals should consider when it comes to romantic relationships between employees, including policy considerations, the dynamics of the workplace romance and the potential legal implications for employers. 8 a.m., 211 Commerce Street. Franchise Business Network Lunch

Fairgrounds Master Plan Phase 1 Open House

The State Fairgrounds master plan is in its first phase as Metro identifies facilities needed for a successful state fair and a year-round schedule of events. On July 23, Metro staff and consultants will provide updates on preliminary studies conducted as part of the master plan and receive comments and suggestions from stakeholders, neighbors and the general public. The meeting will be held 5-8 p.m. in the Sonny West Conference Center in the Howard Office Building, 700 Second Avenue South. Metro staff and consultants will be present to discuss the Plan’s progress with community members.

Middle Tennessee Genealogical Society

Starting Your Own Business

Civil War Memoirs of Erastus Winter

Author and Civil War student Lee Ann Newton of Murfreesboro will present a program titled “Serving Uncle Sam: The Civil War Memoirs of Erastus Winter” at Fort Negley. The 7 p.m. event is sponsored by Fort Donelson Camp #62, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War of Middle Tennessee. Erastus Winters was a corporal in Company “K” of the 50th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. He survived the Battles of Perryville, the Atlanta Campaign, and Franklin, imprisonment at Cohaba Prison, only to nearly lose his life on the explosion of the Sultana, the worst maritime disaster in American history. Nashville Emerging Leader Awards

The sixth annual NELAs will recognize young professionals in 15 industry classifications who are excelling in their careers and making a difference in the Nashville community. Summer Career Fair

Battle of Franklin Trust 2012 Summer Concert Series

The Battle of Franklin Trust, which manages The Carter House and Carnton Plantation, will host a three-part concert series at Carnton, 1345 Carnton Lane, Franklin, presented by BancorpSouth. Advance tickets will be available at The Carter House, Carnton Plantation and BancorpSouth in Franklin, 914 Murfreesboro Road. Advance tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 6 to 12. General admission at the gate for adults is $12, children 6 to 12 are $5 and children 5 and under are free.

  • Sunday, July 29: South Street Players will perform songs made famous in the 1970s.
  • August 26: Greez Monkeez will play hits made famous in the 1980s.

Treehouses: Great Works of Literature

Cheekwood has selected seven designers for its 2012 summer outdoor exhibition. Opening Memorial Day weekend, Treehouses focuses on great works of literature with whimsical and traditional Treehouses in the landscape at Cheekwood. This exhibition celebrates the 10-year anniversary of the first summer exhibition at Cheekwood, Terrific Treehouses. Previous exhibitions also include Playhouses and Forts, Big Bugs and, most recently, Happily Ever After. Information: Cheekwood.org.
