Nashville Symphony Summer Concerts. An annual summer tradition that embodies the organization’s mission of bringing outstanding music to audiences of every age and background throughout Middle Tennessee. Featured composers include Beethoven, Bernstein, Copland, Tchaikovsky, Cole Porter and more. All performances are free of charge (except where noted) and will be conducted by Nashville Symphony Assistant Conductor Vinay Parameswaran. Tonight: East Park, 8 p.m. Additional dates and locations for the 2014 series are:

  • Friday, June 6, 8 p.m.: Bicentennial Mall State Park
  • Sunday, June 8, 7 p.m.: Crockett Park
  • Tuesday, June 10, 7 p.m.: Cumberland University, Lebanon (Admission for this concert is $5 for adults, free for students and children)
  • Wednesday, June 11, 7:30 p.m.: Key Park, Lafayette
  • Thursday, June 12, 7 p.m.: Two Rivers Mansion

The Symphony will conclude its free outdoor performances on July 4, when the orchestra takes part in Music City’s Independence Day celebration with a free concert in downtown Nashville on the Lawn at Riverfront Park that will also include performances by Billy Currington, Ashley Monroe and Striking Matches before the South’s largest fireworks show. Taste of Gallatin at Triple Creek Park

Seventh annual event is set for Triple Creek Park Pavilion and showcases restaurants, caterers, groceries and event facilities in the Gallatin area, giving attendees the chance to sample the many flavors of local Gallatin businesses. 5-8 p.m. Information: 452-4000, [email protected].

Interactive Media Meet-up

Guest speaker: Liz Denning, owner of Gamma Blast. Downtown Franklin Art Scene

The event, held the first Friday of each month, includes more than 30 galleries and working studios dispersed through an area thriving with spots listed on the National Register of Historic Places in downtown Franklin. The event is free, but a $5 unlimited trolley ticket runs all night to take guests from spot to spot. Many of the locations serve complimentary wine and hors d’ouevres and are within walking distance. 6-9 p.m. Information: http://franklinartscene.com.

SATURDAY, JUNE 7

First Saturday Art Crawl

“Sketchbooks, Brainstorms & Process Work” by Holly Carden will be featured at the Watkins Arcade Gallery, Suite 77 in The Arcade, during June’s First Saturday Art Crawl. The monthly visual arts event is presented by 5th Avenue of the Arts and takes place in that historic entertainment district of downtown Nashville. On the first Saturday of every month, 6 p.m.-9 p.m., an alliance of art galleries and museums collectively invite the public to explore the vibrant Nashville downtown art scene. Solar Workshop for Homeowners

LightWave Solar will host a workshop to explain the process of installing solar at your home. Topics include: How solar works, solar equipment, roof and shade requirements and an overview of available tax and utility incentives. 39th annual Town & Country Tour of Homes

In honor of the sesquicentennial of the Battle of Franklin, this year’s tour will mostly feature homes and building standing during November 30, 1864. People lived or worked in each of those buildings, and all have stories to tell about the Battle of Franklin and its aftermath. This year tour participants will enjoy costumed re-enactors at each of the sites, who will tell the stories of the Battle of Franklin as it relates to those homes or businesses, from the perspectives of the people who were there. Southland Conference

The startup tech conference will include well-known speakers, a pitch competition and Southern culture. Speakers include former Vice President Al Gore, PayPal president David Marcus; Evernote CEO Phil Libin; Box CEO Aaron Levie; former model Christy Turlington and Bonobos, Inc. CEO Andy Dunn. Ten early-stage companies will be chosen to pitch at the conference for a grand prize of $100,000. They will be judged by a panel of 10 investors and entrepreneurs, who have agreed to put up an individual investment of $10,000 each. Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce is kicking off its new Spark Series, offering professional development workshops in partnership with c3/consulting. For teams or individuals, these full- and half-day workshops help organizations increase productivity, improve collaboration, enhance leadership skills and learn techniques for strategic planning.
