Leadership Middle Tennennessee Application Deadline
Leadership Middle Tennessee is a regional leadership program founded to engage community and business leaders to focus on issues facing the 10-county region. Participating counties for LMT are Cheatham, Davidson, Dickson, Maury, Montgomery, Robertson, Rutherford, Sumner, Williamson and Wilson Counties. Selected class members will participate in 10 one and a-half day sessions during the 2012-2013 year. Information: leadmt.org.

Farm Day at Real Food Farms
The public is invited to tour Real Food Farms in Grasslands, dig in the dirt, meet the animals and have a lunch fresh from the farm’s fields. Potluck dishes welcome. 15th annual Memorial Day Dash 5k
The race will begin at 8 a.m. at Greer Stadium, 534 Chestnut Street, and end in the Nashville City Cemetery. Race day registration opens at 6:30 a.m. All proceeds from the NCCA/Nashville Striders-sponsored event will benefit the continuing restoration and preservation of the cemetery, one of the most sacred and historic plots of ground in Middle Tennessee. Treehouses: Great Works of Literature
Cheekwood has selected seven designers for its 2012 summer outdoor exhibition. Opening Memorial Day weekend, Treehouses focuses on great works of literature with whimsical and traditional Treehouses in the landscape at Cheekwood. This exhibition celebrates the 10-year anniversary of the first summer exhibition at Cheekwood, Terrific Treehouses. Previous exhibitions also include Playhouses and Forts, Big Bugs and, most recently, Happily Ever After. Information: Cheekwood.org.

Brew at the Zoo
Nashville Zoo and Rhizome Productions are teaming up for Brew at the Zoo, featuring Animals, live music, local food trucks and 75 craft beers on tap at this adults-only event. Guests will be able to wander the Entry Village, Festival Field and African Savannah exhibit areas while sampling beer from more than 25 craft breweries. 6:30-11 p.m. $50 per person. Old House Fair
The Tennessee Preservation Trust (TPT), in partnership with the Metro Historical Commission, is offering an Old House Fair, essentially a mini-trade show with a neighborhood focus, to assist Nashville homeowners. Local suppliers and crafts persons who are experts in historic preservation will be on hand to answer your questions. The nationally renowned Bob Yapp will be presenting on three topics: “How to Hire & Work with a Contractor,” “Old Windows Aren’t a Pane-They’re a Goldmine,” and “Energy Efficiency for Old Houses and Buildings.” Yapp is perhaps best known for his 1990s national weekly PBS program, “About Your House with Bob Yapp,” and his syndicated radio show, “The House Doctor.” Admission: $10. Nashville Songwriters Festival on Music Row
Songwriters from around the world will visit Music City for the Nashville Songwriters Festival on Music Row. More than 400 emerging songwriters will take the stage along Demonbreun from noon-midnight Friday-Sunday at venues such as Dan McGuinness, Red Rooster, Tin Roof, Otter’s Chicken & Brew and First Citizen’s Bank. The Best Western Music Row will host music industry booths and training sessions 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday-Sunday. Attendees can receive hands-on advice, critiques and training on topics such as the craft of songwriting, recording techniques, publishing, song plugging, contracts, product development, audio podcast development, video production, management, and publicity. Festival registration is $150 for three days, $110 for two days, and $60 for one day. The general public can enjoy three days of live music with a $20 armband. Information: 424-1491.
