People’s Law School is a free program that provides an overview of legal issues that a typical person might face. Topics and dates:

• March 7 – Basics of U.S. Immigration: Provides an introduction to the terms and concepts of U.S. immigration law, ways that people immigrate to the U.S., complexities and recent developments of immigration law and how to avoid potential scams.
• April 4 – Social Security Options: Instructors will review how to apply for and obtain Social Security retirement, disability, spouse and child benefits, Medicare health insurance and Supplemental Security Income Disability and old age benefits.
• April 11 – Renters’ Rights: Students will learn their legal rights as a renter and how to assert them, what to look for in a lease, how to get their landlord to make repairs, how to get their security deposit back and other problems renters face.

Taught by Legal Aid Society staff and other volunteers, the weekly, one-hour classes will be held at the Cohn Learning Center, 4805 Park Avenue, from 6 to 7 p.m. Information: 298.8050, nashville.gov/ce.

Farm, Home and Garden Show

Industry professionals will be on hand at the Dickson County Fairgrounds to discuss services including landscape design, outdoor recreation, agriculture, equestrian and horticulture, among others. 2013 Old House Fair

The free, day-long festival, presented by the Metropolitan Historical Commission and the Tennessee Preservation Trust, showcases new ideas, practical advice, innovative materials and quality services for homeowners. Vendors and presenters will offer tips on enhancing energy efficiency, maintaining and restoring old houses, how to hire a contractor, choosing suitable materials and identifying appropriate design elements for specific architectural styles and eras. 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Cohn School, 4805 Park Avenue, Nashville.
