New Year New Hobby: Orienteering

Join the Nashville Public Library for a fun and informative two-hour clinic on orienteering, a sport where enthusiasts navigate in different ways through unfamiliar territory with a map and compass to find checkpoints. Participants will learn how to use both a compass and a map, how to take and follow bearings, and even more advanced topics in orienteering through hands-on, active exercises. Winter Frolic

The Hermitage hosts Winter Frolic similar to the one hosted by Andrew Jackson in the White House. Play games the family did – including an artificial snowball fight. The evening will close with a Yule Log Ceremony. 3-6 p.m. The Hermitage, 4580 Rachel’s Lane. Fee: $25-30. Information

Commemoration of the Battle of New Orleans

Enjoy free grounds passes to The Hermitage to commemorate the Battle of New Orleans, a crucial American victory during the War of 1812 and the event that catapulted General Andrew Jackson to national fame and recognition. 10 a.m.-3 p.m. In the evening the program continues with a deeper dive into the battle of New Orleans from the Director of Interpretation.
