Understanding Muslim Societies
Dr. Richard Bulliet, professor of history, Columbia University, will be the featured speaker at the event, sponsored by the Tennessee World Affairs Council. CoLab Nashville Open House
CoLab Nashville, a downtown co-working space, will host an open house 5-7 p.m. at its facility, 230 4th Ave. N, Suite 105, to answer questions about co-working, showcase its members and introduce visitors to the trends. CoLab, which opened in 2010, houses nearly 60 companies in its office suites, cubicles and shared workspaces, taking up two full floors and part of another in the Wells Fargo building. Starting Your Own Business
Middle Tennessee State University’s Small Business Development Center, in conjunction with the Small Business Administration, will conduct a free seminar on starting your own business at the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce located at 3050 Medical Center Parkway in Murfreesboro. This seminar is intended for persons who have never been in business. Murfreesboro Area Art Studio Tour
Like home or garden tours, the Studio Tour invites attendees into the artist’s workplace to visit, watch demonstrations and ask questions about their craft. Unlike the others, Art Tour visitors will also find unique gifts. Visitors will be able to see pottery formed and fired, metal forged into sculpture or shaped into jewelry, fiber woven and wood sculpted from Lascassas to near Woodbury and Bell Buckle. Franklin Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis
More than 1,500 runners and walkers are expected to take part, with a fundraising goal of $114,000. The race begins at 9:10 a.m. on the Franklin Square. Teams or individuals may register for the 5K run or 1 mile walk by visiting www.franklinjbrw.org.

40th annual Carter House Candlelight Tour
The Tour will showcase homes in historic Franklin, 6-9:30 p.m. each day. This year’s tour will include the following homes:

- North-Nance House, 206 Lewisburg Avenue
- Drs. North-Miller House, 208 Lewisburg Avenue
- Mills-Crosby-Jewell House, 211 Lewisburg Avenue

- Ross House, 220 Lewisburg Avenue
Additionally, The Carter House, Carnton Plantation and Lotz House will be on the tour, portraying stories of The Battle of Franklin on its anniversary, Nov. 30, and will be decorated in period holiday style Dec. 1. Tickets are $30 ($25 in advance). Information: battleoffranklintrust.org.
