3. Justice Clark to receive TBA’s Drowota Award -

Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Cornelia A. Clark will be honored next month with the Tennessee Bar Association’s prestigious Justice Frank F. Drowota III Award.

Named in honor of former Tennessee Chief Justice Frank Drowota, the Drowota Award is the TBA’s highest award for service to the judiciary and has been given annually for more than a decade.

4. Vanderbilt’s Shah to lead Deptartment of Cardiac Surgery -

Ashish Shah, M.D., director of Heart Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support at Vanderbilt, has been named chair of the Department of Cardiac Surgery.

Shah, professor of Cardiac Surgery, succeeds Michael Petracek, M.D., who is stepping down from the post. The appointment became effective July 1.

6. Nashville Technology Council awards finalists announced -

The Nashville Technology Council has announced nominees in 13 categories for its seventh annual awards.

Finalists were selected among nominees by a panel of peers and tech industry leaders. Winners will be announced at the seventh annual NTC Awards ceremony presented by Vaco, held Thursday, Jan. 28, at the Event Hall in the Country Music Hall of Fame.

7. Barron’s once again names Pagliara state’s top wealth advisor -

Middle Tennessee-based wealth manager Tim Pagliara, chairman and CEO of CapWealth Advisors, has been named the top financial advisor in the state of Tennessee by Barron’s magazine for the fourth consecutive year. He and his firm also made the magazine’s list of Top 1,200 Advisors for the sixth time in seven years.

8. Lueken moves from Goldman to CapWealth -

Franklin-based CapWealth Advisors has tapped former Goldman Sachs investment veteran John Lueken to lead its research efforts.

Lueken comes to CapWealth from the Manhattan offices of Goldman Sachs, where he served in a number of investment roles as a vice president in the company’s securities division. While there, Lueken developed and built custom solutions for client portfolios based on his monitoring of worldwide economic developments and their impact on the equity and fixed-income marketplace. Under his leadership, the business became the fastest growing and most profitable desk in the Goldman Sachs Securities division from 2006 through 2012.

9. Barge Waggoner’s Higgins honored as top engineer -

Bob Higgins, president and CEO of Barge, Waggoner, Sumner and Cannon, Inc., has been named 2014 Engineer of the Year by the Tennessee Society of Professional Engineers.

10. CapWealth names Venable president, COO -

Independent investment advisory firm CapWealth Advisors LLC has selected Phoebe J. Venable to be its president and chief operating officer.

11. Merrill returns as VUH chief of staff -

Cardiothoracic surgeon Walter Merrill, M.D., a member of the Vanderbilt faculty from 1983 until 2002, has returned to Vanderbilt to become chief of staff of Vanderbilt University Hospital.
