1. Tennessee Medicaid block grant push gets backlash at hearing -

NASHVILLE (AP) — Tennessee's plan to become the first state to receive Medicaid funding in a lump sum drew overwhelming opposition and no praise at its first public hearing Tuesday.

Around 30 people worried aloud at the Nashville hearing that the $7.9 billion block grant proposal could compromise coverage and care for Tennessee's most vulnerable citizens. Some contended the plan would be illegal. Many called for Tennessee to expand Medicaid instead.

Scott McCarver, associate operating office for Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital and Clinics, has been named chief operating officer for the Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital.

As COO, McCarver is responsible for providing operational oversight of professional and ambulatory departments, clinical service lines and the Patient Care Centers and Institutes residing within the adult inpatient enterprise.
