4. Baker Donelson names Nebel for new position -

Baker Donelson has named Meagan Nebel to serve as the firm’s first director of lateral recruiting and integration, a newly created role responsible for managing the recruitment, acquisition, integration and retention of shareholders and of counsel.

5. Connell named fellow for two attorney groups -

Virginia (Ginger) J. Connell has been accepted as a fellow of the International Academy of Family Lawyers and the Nashville Bar Foundation.

IAFL is a worldwide association of practicing lawyers who are recognized by their peers for their experience and expertise in family law. Membership is by invitation.

6. Organizing committee named for 2019 NFL Draft -

The local organizing committee for the 2019 NFL Draft includes 35 Nashville business and community leaders, including country artist Tim McGraw and Eddie George, formerly of the Tennessee Titans, and is led by honorary co-chairs Amy Adams Strunk, Tennessee Titans owner, and Mayor David Briley. Serving as co-chairs are Steve Underwood, CEO and president of the Tennessee Titans, and Dan Mohnke, senior vice president, sales & marketing and operations, Nissan North America.

7. McCarver named COO for Vanderbilt Adult Hospital -

Scott McCarver, associate operating office for Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital and Clinics, has been named chief operating officer for the Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital.

As COO, McCarver is responsible for providing operational oversight of professional and ambulatory departments, clinical service lines and the Patient Care Centers and Institutes residing within the adult inpatient enterprise.

8. Public schools Hall honorees announced -

Renata Soto, co-founder and executive director of Conexión Américas, will receive the Nelson C. Andrews Distinguished Service Award at the Nashville Public Education Foundation’s 12th annual Public Schools Hall of Fame luncheon on Oct. 17.

Screening, Discussion of ‘American Denial’. The law firm of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC presents a special screening tonight in conjunction with Nashville Public Television’s Black History Month programming. “American Denial” is the story of researcher and Nobel Laureate Gunnar Myrdal whose study, “An American Dilemma” (1944), provided an inquiry into how denial, cognitive dissonance, and unrecognized, unconscious attitudes continue to dominate racial dynamics in American life. Nashville Lawn and Garden Show. This year’s Nashville Lawn and Garden Show will partner with the Tennessee Farm Winegrowers Alliance to present a one-day-only Wine Festival during the show’s traditional four-day show, which runs through Sunday, at the Tennessee State Fairgrounds. The Show will incorporate locally produced wine from more than a dozen of the state’s most celebrated wineries on Saturday, March 7, noon-7 p.m. Wine Festival wrist bands will be available inside the Nashville Lawn & Garden Show. 12. Bovender inducted into Business Hall of Fame -

More than 400 business leaders gathered at Loews Vanderbilt Hotel last week to induct Jack Bovender, Jr., retired Chairman of HCA., into the Phoenix Club Nashville Business Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame recognizes the city’s outstanding contributors to business and philanthropy and benefits Junior Achievement of Middle Tennessee students.

13. Business Hall of Fame honors HCA’s Bovender -

Jack O. Bovender, Jr. has been named the 2014 Laureate of The Phoenix Club Nashville Business Hall of Fame.

Best known as a longstanding leader of HCA, Bovender’s wide range of volunteer service and community involvement demonstrate that he also is an individual committed to building a strong community, and to ensuring a promising future for Middle Tennessee’s young people.

15. Myers moves from Wellpoint to Corizon -

Corizon, a provider of correctional health care solutions, has hired Woodrow A. Myers, Jr., M.D. as its new CEO.

Myers was formerly the executive vice president and chief medical officer of WellPoint, Inc. and has served as director of health care management for Ford Motor Company. He has also served as the health commissioner for the city of New York and the state of Indiana.

16. Kiwanis names Buchanan Nashvillian of the Year -

Kiwanis Club of Nashville has honored Steve Buchanan as its 2012 Outstanding Nashvillian of the Year for his community contributions. Buchanan is president of the Opry Entertainment Group, a division of Ryman Hospitality Properties, and executive producer for “Nashville.”

17. Bass, Berry & Sims adds Lloyd to firm -

Travis Lloyd, formerly an associate in the Nashville office of Bradley Arant Boult Cummings LLP, has joined Bass, Berry & Sims PLC.

Lloyd is joining the firm’s health care practice as an associate and will provide counsel to clients within the health care industry on a wide range of regulatory matters. The South Through Eight Lenses & A Code. The Arts Company presents a two-month celebration of photography, featuring eight photographers from the South Light Salon.
