2. Golden dreams for Paris -

On its own, a 17-day, all-expenses-paid birthday trip to Paris is a fabulous thing. That’s what Nashville sisters Gretchen and Alex Walsh won earlier this summer.

While in the City of Lights with family, friends and tens of thousands of other sightseers, the Walsh sisters hope to visit the Eiffel Tower and other famous tourist sites, enjoy a taste of French cuisine and go shopping for a few souvenirs.

7. O’Connell inauguration celebration Saturday -

New Metro Nashville/Davidson County Mayor Freddie O’Connell took his oath of office Monday morning in a private ceremony at the Metro Courthouse.

A public event titled Nashville Coming Together, a daylong celebration including a Celebration of City Services, transit treks, food trucks and live musical entertainment, will take place Saturday.

8. Luxury home prices show no signs of letting up soon -

In 2020, when the residential real estate market fell into the dimension of the surreal, and houses began selling for astronomical prices, there was some concern the buyers were overpaying. The fear was that these buyers would never be able to recoup the investments they had made in these properties.

122nd Spring Outing at The Hermitage. Spring Outing is a century-old Nashville tradition that began in the early days of the Ladies’ Hermitage Association as a picnic on the mansion’s lawn. Since then, the event has evolved into a major fundraiser held to benefit The Andrew Jackson Foundation’s many education programs and preservation projects. Featured speaker for this year’s event is Jonathan W. Pliska, a renowned Landscape historian and author of A Garden for the President: A History of the White House Grounds. The state Department of Environment and Conservation has announced the recipients of low-interest construction loans for water and wastewater infrastructure improvements.

Jeremy Cross, 36, was canoeing with his 11-year-old son and a family friend when they encountered high winds and rough waters near Hole in the Wall Island at J. Percy Priest Lake.
