NASHVILLE (AP) — NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman brought one of the league's most beloved general managers with him to the stage Wednesday night to kick off the draft.

That may have helped keep the traditional booing of Bettman a bit quieter than usual. David Poile, the longest-tenured and winningest general manager in league history, is retiring Friday after overseeing the startup of the Nashville Predators as an expansion franchise in 1997.

MEMPHIS (AP) — Shipping giant FedEx Corp.'s logistics subsidiary has opened a new global headquarters in the building that once held the Gibson guitar factory in an entertainment district in downtown Memphis, Tennessee.

7. Gibson Garage opens June 9 with concert -

Gibson, the iconic, American instrument brand based in Nashville, is debuting the Gibson Garage, which it bills as the “ultimate guitar experience.”

The 8,000-square-foot shop will officially open to the public June 9 at historic Cummins Station, located on 209 10th Avenue South.

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — A guitar given to B.B. King for his 80th birthday has sold for $280,000 at an auction of items from the blues legend's estate.

Julien's Auctions says King often used the black Gibson ES-345 prototype that was one of several guitars he called "Lucille." A spokeswoman for the auction house, Mozell Miley-Bailey, said Monday that the buyer wants to remain anonymous.

10. First VU tower will be imploded Saturday -

MEMPHIS (AP) — FedEx Logistics is establishing a new headquarters in downtown Memphis, Tennessee, and bringing nearly 700 jobs along with it.

FedEx Logistics President and CEO Richard W. Smith and Gov. Bill Lee told news reporters Tuesday that the branch of shipping giant FedEx Corp. is moving into a building formerly occupied by the Gibson Guitar factory.

NASHVILLE (AP) — The head of Gibson Guitar Corp. said Thursday that the company is being unfairly targeted after a raid by federal authorities at factories in Memphis and Nashville.

Henry Juszkiewicz, CEO of Nashville-based Gibson, said at a news conference that authorities didn't specify what they were investigating during Wednesday's raids, but have suggested that the use of wood from India that is not finished by Indian workers is illegal.
