It’s déjà vu all over again. For the second time in six years, Nashville voters get to decide on how to pay for a slate of local transportation programs that, backers say, would give people more ways to get around town and set up a system and regular funding for continuing to develop the system.

2. Nashville’s Hiller wins state bar award -

4. These questions might make for better poll results -

The latest poll by the Beacon Center of Tennessee, a conservative think tank, is out. Full of surprises it is not. Upon surveying 1,197 registered Tennessee voters online, it reports that:

• Tennesseans favor Donald Trump over Joe Biden for president by 57% to 29%. If Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is tossed into the mix, the margin drops to 48 to 25, with Kennedy attracting 16% – a political choice roughly on a par with supporting Mickey Mouse, but there you have it.

6. Predictions for the new year: It’s still Swift’s world -

As 2023 slinks into history, a few bold – and in some cases, wishful – predictions for 2024:

• Taylor Swift, adding to her Time Person of the Year designation, is named Muggle of the Year by the Harry Potter Fan Club. The honor comes with a replica magic wand which, when Swift wields it, works.

7. From AI and inflation to Elon Musk and Taylor Swift, the business stories that dominated 2023 -

The tide turned against inflation. Artificial intelligence went mainstream — for good or ill. Labor unions capitalized on their growing might to win more generous pay and benefits.

Elon Musk renamed and rebranded the social media platform Twitter, removed guardrails against phony or obscene posts and ranted profanely when advertisers fled in droves.

8. Nashville DA seeks change after suspect released from jail is accused of shooting college student -

9. Easing congestion on the I-24 corridor -

Overjoyed. That’s the best way to describe District 32 councilwoman Joy Styles these days when discussing the WeGo transit hub that will be built in Antioch.

With the Sept. 12 presentation of a $5 million check from Federal Transit Administration – on Styles’ 50th birthday, no less – to help fund the regional mobility facility, the Antioch Transit Center will serve as one of the anchors for Metro’s $44 million redevelopment of the former Hickory Hollow/Global Mall property, which it purchased last year.

11. Titans believe they found themselves on road in OT comeback -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans have done enough talking. In rallying for an overtime victory on the road, they may have found the formula to help defend their AFC South title.

Derrick Henry and the Titans piled up 532 yards in rallying from a 15-point deficit at halftime and 14 points in the final 13:06 of regulation. Henry scored two of his three touchdowns to force overtime, and a maligned defense came through for a 33-30 overtime win in Seattle.

13. A look at Democrats' sweeping proposals to overhaul policing -

WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrats in Congress are proposing an overhaul of police procedures and accountability after the mass protests over the deaths of black Americans at the hand of law enforcement.

The Justice in Policing Act is among the most ambitious law enforcement reforms from Congress in years and confronts several aspects of policing that have come under strong criticism, especially as more and more police violence is captured on cellphone video and shared across the nation and the world.
