1. Formers Titans Brown, Kern get Super Bowl shot -

The matchup for Super Bowl LVII is now set, and the Philadelphia Eagles will take on the Kansas City Chiefs Feb. 12 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

We’ll wait until next week to reveal our Super Bowl prediction and our four downs keys to the game. But for fans of the Titans, their eyes will mostly be on the Eagles for two good reasons.

2. How good are the Titans? -

As the Tennessee Titans are just past the midway point of the season, it’s a good time to reflect on where the franchise currently stands.

The Titans’ 6-3 record before the Green Bay game has them firmly in the driver’s seat in the AFC South, having already dispatched the Colts twice, squeaking by the Texans in Houston, and while both Jaguars games are still upcoming, the Jags are being the Jags.

3. Titans go with rookie Malik Willis as Tannehill's backup QB -

NASHVILLE (AP) — Rookie quarterback Malik Willis' quick learning curve made veteran Logan Woodside dispensable for Tennessee.

The Titans cut Woodside along with 27 other players waived or released Tuesday at the NFL deadline to trim the roster to 53. They also waived injured tight end Tommy Hudson before turning attention to their season opener Sept. 11 hosting the New York Giants.

4. Titans releasing 3-time Pro Bowl punter Brett Kern -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans told three-time Pro Bowl punter Brett Kern on Monday that he will be released, going with an undrafted rookie to replace the man who had been their longest-tenured player.

5. Offenses struggle during Titans-Cardinals joint workout -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans and Arizona Cardinals tried to make the most of their one practice against each other on Wednesday.

The teams held a joint practice ahead of Saturday night's preseason game. They had agreed to cut their two scheduled workouts to one and limited that session to one-on-one drills and a two-minute team period at the end of practice. Both teams will practice separately on Thursday.

6. Titans unwilling to force ball to Burks in preseason -

NASHVILLE (AP) — Finding Treylon Burks through two games is more a case of Where's Waldo with the preseason numbers for the Tennessee Titans' first-round pick downright anemic.

Burks has exactly one catch for four yards with a combined four targets this preseason. Because Burks was drafted at No. 18 overall with the selection acquired in the trade sending wide receiver A.J. Brown to Philadelphia, it's very easy to panic after the rookie missed much of the offseason program dealing with asthma and conditioning issues.

7. Reflective Lewan happy with 8-year Titans run -

Through eight years, Taylor Lewan has had an up-and-down career for the Tennessee Titans.

There have been the highs of Pro Bowl selections and playoff wins and the lows of a season-ending knee injury last year, the terrible seasons at the start of his professional career and plenty of other bumps in the road along the way.

8. Lewan out vs. Chiefs, Jones questionable -

NASHVILLE (AP) — Titans left tackle Taylor Lewan will not play against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday as he recovers from a concussion.

The Titans also declared Friday that wide receiver Chester Rogers, who ranks second in the NFL averaging 13.3 yards per punt return, and linebacker Monty Rice won't play.

9. Chiefs at Titans: What to watch -

The Titans are in the midst of a tough stretch of games, first with the Buffalo win and then the Kansas City Chiefs on a short week. The Chiefs, despite a 3-3 record, are a tough out and a top contender.

10. Titans banged up, resilient, ready to build off 34-31 win -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans just passed their biggest test this season even with an injury report that grows with each passing game.

Call it poise, resiliency or the old cliche of next man up, it certainly helps having the NFL's best rusher in Derrick Henry and a defense with a growing knack for goal-line stands.

11. Titans' 3-time Pro Bowl punter Brett Kern on COVID-19 list -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans have placed three-time Pro Bowl punter Brett Kern on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.

12. Titans LB Dupree: Mind, pride got ahead of knee -

NASHVILLE (AP) — Outside linebacker Bud Dupree says his mind, and pride, got ahead of his body in his recovery from a torn right ACL.

Blame the eagerness of wanting to make a good impression with his new team, the Tennessee Titans, and introduce himself the right way to a new city and fans.

13. Titans determined to fix issues protecting QB Ryan Tannehill -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans are having serious issues protecting their quarterback.

After being sacked only 24 times all of last season, Ryan Tannehill has been taken down 17 times — most in the NFL through four games. Only Carson Wentz of Indianapolis (35) and New England's Mac Jones (34) have been hit more than Tannehill (32).

14. Vrabel: Nobody did well enough in loss to Jets -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans are banged up, can't protect their quarterback and just lost to a previously winless team.

Yep, there's plenty of blame to go around.

"Nobody did well enough — head coach, assistant coaches, quarterback," coach Mike Vrabel said Monday. "We've been through this before. When you lose, we all have to do more, we all have to be better. I'm confident that we will. So we'll see who we have this week, we'll see who's available and get them ready."

15. Julio Jones, A.J. Brown, among 6 Titans out vs NY Jets -

NASHVILLE (AP) — Wide receivers Julio Jones and A.J. Brown are among six Titans who won't play Sunday against the New York Jets.

The Titans declared both of the Pro Bowl receivers out along with outside linebacker Bud Dupree, who didn't play despite being dressed last week against the Colts. Also out is three-time Pro Bowl punter Brett Kern and rookie cornerback Caleb Farley.

16. Titans sign another punter with 3-time Pro Bowler Kern hurt -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans already have a second replacement kicker on the roster with the first on injured reserve, and now they have a second punter.

Three-time Pro Bowl punter Brett Kern was limited Wednesday with an injured right groin muscle that kept him from practicing Thursday. So the Titans signed punter Johnny Townsend to the roster Thursday.

17. Titans vs. Colts: What to watch -

It’s Colts week in Tennessee, and here’s what the Titans must do to take control of the AFC South.

First down

Play defense like the second half vs. Seattle. Other than one 68-yard touchdown pass from Russell Wilson to Freddie Swaim, the Titan defense shut out the Seahawks during the final 30 minutes and in overtime.

18. Titans believe they found themselves on road in OT comeback -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans have done enough talking. In rallying for an overtime victory on the road, they may have found the formula to help defend their AFC South title.

Derrick Henry and the Titans piled up 532 yards in rallying from a 15-point deficit at halftime and 14 points in the final 13:06 of regulation. Henry scored two of his three touchdowns to force overtime, and a maligned defense came through for a 33-30 overtime win in Seattle.

19. NFL roster spots are for the great or versatile -

I first heard the term, “the more you can do,” from the late Floyd Reese, former Titans general manager, when I first started covering the Titans and the NFL.

Now a quarter century later, you’ll still hear that phrase spring forth from the Titans administration, including current general manager Jon Robinson and head coach Mike Vrabel. It came into play again last week when roster cuts were finalized.

20. Few veterans on hand in latest stage of Titans' offseason -

NASHVILLE (AP) — No Ryan Tannehill, Derrick Henry or A.J. Brown on offense nor safety Kevin Byard from the defense.

21. Chasing AFC South title, 10 wins not enough for Titans -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans insist they aren't satisfied with much bigger goals than simply winning 10 games for the first time in 12 seasons.

They keep this up, returning to the AFC championship game could be only a stop on the way.

22. Run-game fans will love matchup with Browns -

There was a time when a Titans-Browns matchup would have been a battle of NFL dregs. But times have changed, and now both are solidly in contention for playoffs berths.

The Browns are more likely to find themselves as a wild-card despite owning the same 8-3 record the as the AFC South-leading Titans. That’s because Cleveland is in the AFC North with the Steelers, who have jumped out to a 10-0 lead. Here are the keys for the Titans to topple the visitors from Cleveland Sunday.

23. Rebounding vs. Ravens requires some quick fixes -

First down: What the heck is up on special teams? The Titans have used three punters in three weeks, thanks mostly to Brett Kern’s injury. But why deactivate Ryan Allen and go with Trevor Daniel?

24. Sagging Titans back to work, currently outside playoff spot -

NASHVILLE (AP) — Not only have the Tennessee Titans lost three of their past four games, they returned to work Monday among six AFC teams with 6-3 records.

They're also the first team out looking in at the AFC's playoff picture.

25. Special teams miscues cost Titans in 34-17 loss to Colts -

NASHVILLE (AP) — Coming into this season, the Tennessee Titans had only two punters since 1998. Now they've gone through three, plus two long snappers, in as many games.

All that instability showed Thursday night.

26. Looking back, ahead at Titans’ unusual season -

With the Titans having a short week and a Thursday night game against the Indianapolis Colts, we will forego the usual four downs and the usual game-plan slant. Instead, we will examine four areas regarding Tennessee’s season thus far.

27. Titans atop AFC South, right where they wanted to be at midpoint -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans are exactly where they wanted to be, sitting atop the AFC South with their playoff fate firmly in their hands.

The Titans learned the importance of needing to at least start the postseason at home after being forced to win three straight road games to reach the AFC championship last January before losing to the Chiefs.

28. Titans snap 2-game losing streak, beat skidding Bears 24-17 -

NASHVILLE (AP) — Coach Mike Vrabel has been warning his Tennessee Titans they had reached a crossroads after losing back-to-back games.

Ryan Tannehill threw two touchdown passes, and the banged-up Tennessee Titans responded Sunday by never trailing in beating the Chicago Bears 24-17.

29. Bengals start fast, find combination to close out Titans -

CINCINNATI (AP) — The Cincinnati Bengals started fast again Sunday. This time, rookie quarterback Joe Burrow also delivered the finishing touch.

After watching Giovani Bernard and Samaje Perine run for early scores, Burrow threw two fourth-quarter TD passes and closed out the victory by leading a drive that used up most of the final six minutes to seal the Bengals' 31-20 victory over Tennessee.

30. Titans' comeback magic runs out in 27-24 loss to Steelers -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans had grown so used to rallying late in winning four of their first five games that they expected to do just that once again.

Then Stephen Gostkowski's 45-yard field goal to force overtime slipped wide right, providing a painful reminder that comeback magic doesn't always work.

31. Even Pro Bowler Kern concerned about readiness -

Coming off three consecutive Pro Bowl seasons and a first-team, All-Pro selection in 2019, you wouldn’t think Titans punter Brett Kern would need much preparation for the upcoming season – even during a pandemic.

32. Titans trade 5-time Pro Bowl lineman Casey to Denver -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans kept their starting offense together with only one exception before the start of free agency.

The defense will look very different.

The Titans traded five-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Jurrell Casey to the Denver Broncos on Wednesday for a seventh-round draft pick, two people confirmed to The Associated Press. That came a day after the Titans agreed to terms with defensive end Vic Beasley Jr. on a one-year deal to boost their outside pass rush.

33. Titans send Casey to Broncos for 7th-round pick -

The Denver Broncos have acquired five-time Pro Bowl defensive lineman Jurrell Casey from the Tennessee Titans for a seventh-round draft pick.

The move cannot become official until the new league year begins later Wednesday, though most teams won’t announce official signings until players pass physicals to finalize deals.

35. Which Vrabel will we see directing the defense? -

The Tennessee Titans and coach Mike Vrabel have finalized the coaching staff for 2020 with two intriguing moves.

First, Vrabel brought in Jim Haslett, who has 24 years of NFL experience and last worked for the Cincinnati Bengals in 2018, to coach inside linebackers.

36. With Henry, Titans ready to mash through playoffs -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans have made it clear they are very willing to mash their way through the postseason with the NFL's top rusher leading the way.

Derrick Henry followed up his career-best 1,540 yards in 15 games in the regular season with the best postseason running performance in franchise history with 182 yards. The Titans (10-7) are more than happy going a bit old school with Henry, a stingy defense and an All Pro punter in stunning the New England Patriots 20-13  on Saturday night.

37. Titans lose chance to control playoff future in AFC South -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans had a chance to seize control of the AFC South, a division they haven't won in a decade.

Yet again, they found a way both early and late to let the opportunity slip through their fingers.

38. The science of perfect placekick hold -

It seems like one of the simplest jobs in football, but in reality it involves physics, geometry and even some meteorology to do it right.

That job is being the holder on field goals and extra points, and Titans Pro Bowl punter Brett Kern has become quite adept at his “other job” over the years as the guy who gets the ball down for Titans kicker Ryan Succop.

39. Vrabel can’t keep asking defense to bail him out -

The most interesting aspect of Tennessee Titans games is turning out to be Mike Vrabel’s weekly play-call gamble, which usually backfires, and whether the Titans’ defense can get him off the hook.

40. Titans force 4 turnovers by Winston, hold off Tampa Bay -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans are very happy their stingy defense came up with four turnovers and another late-game stop.

41. ‘Good Titans’ have clear path to win vs. Bills -

About the only thing we know about the Tennessee Titans is that they are consistently inconsistent.

They have two road wins against high-powered offenses and two division losses to two mediocre teams.

42. Kern's take on his 5 Titan coaches -

When outside linebacker Derrick Morgan retired a few weeks ago, it left punter Brett Kern as the longest tenured Titan, having been claimed off waivers from Denver six weeks into the 2009 season.

Kern and Morgan also hold another distinction as they are the only two players in the Titans era to have played for all five coaches from Jeff Fisher to Mike Vrabel in Tennessee.

43. Kicking duo more than footnote in Titan history -

Game days are always special for the Tennessee Titans, but for the 15 team members on the vegan plant-based meal plan of Chef Charity Morgan, “Burger Fridays” rank pretty high, too.

“The biggest thing I love are the burgers. She does a great job with the burgers. Unbelievable,” veteran defensive tackle Jurrell Casey says.

47. Eagles at Titans: What to watch -

After two improbable division wins with a short-handed team – especially on offense – the Titans have to feel like they are playing with house money going into Week 4. The next challenge doesn’t get any easier as the world champion Philadelphia Eagles (Eight months after the Super Bowl, it still seems strange to type that) come to town. Here are some keys for the Titans in what will likely be another uphill challenge.

48. NFL longevity a snap for veteran Brinkley -

Beau Brinkley has one of the most anonymous jobs in the NFL.

And that is just how the Titans long snapper likes it.

“I would definitely agree with that,” says Brinkley who is in his seventh season as the Titans’ long snapper. “That’s another reason I enjoy the job. I’m just kind of an under the radar type of guy. I just kind of keep to myself. It just kind of sticks to the position, and I enjoy it.”

56. Rams at Titans: What to watch -

Wesley Woodyard vs. Todd Gurley. After struggling last year, Gurley is back and is even picking up some chatter as an MVP candidate. 57. Most valuable Titans – so far -

What players have had the biggest impact on the Titans 2017 turnaround? Here are the top five, in no particular order:

LB Wesley Woodyard

59. Record-breaking Succop one of best-ever pickups for Titans -

60. Titans confident they can clean up mistakes before opener -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The clock is ticking for the Tennessee Titans, who have had two ugly preseason losses and need to clean up what coach Mike Mularkey says are too many mistakes.

61. Titaned up: Success found in big moves, tiniest details -

Most critics of last year’s Tennessee Titans saw unsettled ownership, a revolving door of coaches and a lack of talent at key positions. Jon Robinson saw weeds.

As the newly hired general manager made his way around St. Thomas Sports Park, he noticed a patch of weeds growing next to the building. It was an oversight by groundskeepers and probably didn’t faze others people who made their way in and out of the building.

64. Fisher, other familiar faces return for preseason play -

The Tennessee Titans welcome back a familiar face Sunday night when Jeff Fisher rolls back into Nashville as coach of the St. Louis Rams.

It’s just preseason, so it’s little more than a glorified scrimmage with full-price admission.

Top February 2014 residential real estate transactions for Davidson, Williamson, Rutherford, Wilson and Sumner counties, as compiled by Chandler Reports.
