1. New faces, veteran coach aim to fix offensive line -

Nowhere is the challenge greater for the Tennessee Titans than trying to fix the offensive line, which has deteriorated over the past two seasons, bottoming out last year with 64 sacks allowed.

For the second straight year, the Titans could have as many as four new starters on that unit, which will now be coached by head coach Brian Callahan’s father, Bill, who is regarded as one of the best teachers and talent developers in the NFL.

2. Titans use No. 7 pick in NFL draft on Alabama offensive tackle JC Latham -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans hope they finally have fixed at least one tackle spot by taking JC Latham of Alabama with the seventh pick overall in the NFL draft on Thursday night.

Yes, Latham will start out at left tackle alongside left guard Peter Skoronski — Tennessee's top pick a year ago.

3. Titans go into the NFL draft flexible at No. 7 with lots of needs to fill -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans have been among the league's biggest spenders in free agency, and they still won't be able to fill all the remaining holes with only seven selections in this NFL draft.

4. Is Titans head coach job that attractive? -

As the Tennessee Titans work to replace the recently fired Mike Vrabel, it might be a good idea to examine just how attractive this coaching situation is when compared to the other jobs that are open – or might still come open – in the NFL:

5. Titans have the assets for rebuild with coach Mike Vrabel's future in question -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans have the seventh overall draft pick in April along with the second-most cap space to fix a roster that led the NFL in players used for a third straight season winning only six of its past 24 games.

6. A failure years in the making -

The so-called “competitive rebuild” the Tennessee Titans were aiming for in 2023 completely missed the mark.

The collaboration between head coach Mike Vrabel and general manager Ran Carthon that owner Amy Adams Strunk mandated when she brought Carthon on board to replace the fired Jon Robinson had a few hits in the draft and free agency, but not nearly enough for the Titans to remain on the cusp of contention.

7. Titans' revamped offensive line struggling with protection, injuries -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans revamped their offensive line during the offseason from one end to the other, and they might wind up being worse.

The Titans have allowed 35 sacks, better than only four other NFL teams. Tennessee was better than just five teams last season giving up 49 sacks. Despite all of new general manager Ran Carthon's changes, injuries have forced the Titans to start seven different combinations on the line through the first 10 games.

8. Titans hoping being home for stretch run helps salvage season -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The best thing the Tennessee Titans have going for them right now might be their schedule.

They finally get to stay home for five of the seven games remaining where the Titans have been a completely different team, even if it's still not enough to salvage this season.

9. Titans are working to protect QB Levis better, keep the rookie healthy -

NASHVILLE (AP) — Will Levis has always wanted to be in the driver's seat, and the rookie quarterback certainly has the starting job now with the Tennessee Titans.

Their challenge is protecting Levis enough to avoid hurting both his confidence and body. Winning more games would help too.

10. Titans running out of time to salvage season because of road woes -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans are running out of time to salvage this season.

The Titans (3-6) have lost two straight and four of five after a 20-6 loss in Tampa Bay. They haven't won on the road since Nov. 17, 2022, making Tennessee the AFC's lone winless team away from home at 0-5. Arizona is the NFL's only other team still looking for a road win.

11. Levis looks like a rookie, struggles against pass rush in Titans' loss to Buccaneers -

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Will Levis played like a rookie, struggling with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' pass rush and failing to lead the Tennessee offense into the end zone for the first time since being named the Titans' No. 1 quarterback.

12. Levis credits Tannehill for easing transition to Titans starting quarterback -

NASHVILLE (AP) — Ryan Tannehill's first big move as a reserve quarterback for the Tennessee Titans came as he worked his way back into practice.

The veteran made clear to Will Levis that the rookie now goes first in the team's quarterback drills.

13. Time for Titans to make rookie QB Will Levis the starter -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans reach the halfway point of the NFL season unable to win away from home or close out close games.

One thing is clear: Rookie Will Levis has shown enough in his first two NFL starts to be their quarterback because he gives the Titans their best chance to win now and in the future.

14. Pickett hits Johnson for late touchdown as the Steelers slip past Levis, Titans 20-16 -

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Pittsburgh Steelers know their margin for error is impossibly thin. They know no other way.

The tighter the finish, the more the team they believe they can be — a team that rarely, if ever, shows itself for four quarters — emerges.

15. Vrabel says trading All-Pro safety Kevin Byard tough business decision Titans had to make -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans wanted to compete this season, and coach Mike Vrabel said Tuesday winning remains their top focus.

Trading defensive captain and two-time All-Pro safety Kevin Byard may jolt the locker room enough to help turn around a 2-4 start. The deal also signals the Titans are rebuilding.

16. Titans’ bye week priorities -

The Titans, who enter their bye week a 2-4 record and major issues, appear to be fading fast even in the mediocre AFC South. Here are four issues that need to be addressed during their time off.

First down

Evaluate the quarterbacks. With Ryan Tannehill injured, the Titans need to take this opportunity to see what they have in their young quarterbacks – Malik Willis and Will Levis. That said, Willis has had several chances to show his ability, so it would seem to make sense to see what Levis can offer.

17. Tannehill remains Titans starting QB with bye week giving him time to heal -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans believe they got lucky with the timing of quarterback Ryan Tannehill spraining his right ankle in London occurring right before their bye week.

Tannehill left London on crutches after hurting the same right ankle that cost him a combined five games at the end of last season. Malik Willis was sacked on four of five pass attempts in the Titans' 24-16 loss to Baltimore.

18. Titans now have options with 2 offensive linemen returning to practice -

NASHVILLE (AP) — Nicholas Petit-Frere is just happy to be back at practice with his six-game suspension for gambling reduced by two games.

Peter Skoronski has been busy downing shakes and smoothies to add weight in recovering from an appendectomy.

19. Titans trying to fix mistakes, execute to help struggling offense -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans made a bunch of moves this offseason to boost one of the NFL's worst offenses.

They're still waiting for a payoff.

The Titans can't protect Ryan Tannehill, open holes for running back Derrick Henry or find the end zone. Their best hope for bolstering the offensive line may rest in how quickly top draft pick Peter Skoronski returns from an appendectomy Sept. 16 to his starting left guard job.

20. Team must move to shore up badly ineffective offensive line -

When the Titans drafted Peter Skoronksi with the 11th overall pick back in April, the initial thought would be that the rookie from Northwestern would be groomed to replace Taylor Lewan and continue the team’s left tackle succession that had gone from Brad Hopkins to Michael Roos to Lewan and spanned basically all 27 seasons the team has been in Tennessee.

21. Titans face early gut check after ugly offensive performance -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans are about to find out just how long the NFL season can be in coming off one of the worst offensive performances in franchise history.

They finished with only 94 yards in losing 27-3 in Cleveland. That was the lowest total not just since this franchise left Texas for Tennessee in 1997, but the lowest since the then-Houston Oilers were held to 81 by Dallas in 1974.

22. Titans total 94 yards of offense, their lowest in 49 years, in loss to Browns -

CLEVELAND (AP) — Gifted great field position when their defense forced a turnover, the Tennessee Titans moved the ball — backwards.

Incredibly, that was when they scored their only points in a 27-3 loss to the Cleveland Browns.

23. Tennessee Titans see themselves competing to win AFC South, not rebuilding -

The Titans are targeting another AFC South title after just missing out last season under coach Mike Vrabel.

Injuries finally caught up with them in 2022 in the final minutes of a seventh straight loss. Ryan Tannehill stuck around all offseason to heal up from surgery. He is in a contract year and learned the offensive changes by new coordinator Tim Kelly.

24. Titans will sink or swim with offensive line -

It has taken a while, but the Tennessee Titans have rebuilt their offense for 2023.

Adding the likes of veteran wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and rookie running back Tyjae Spears, and hoped-for improvement from Treylon Burks and Kyle Philips, once they return from injuries, should make for a better showing from the offense than we saw in 2022.

25. Young QBs play well, kickers have inconsistent first outing -

With training camp now in full swing and the Titans heading into preseason week No. 2 at Minnesota, there are a few battles unfolding that are worth monitoring until the 53-man roster is set. Here are a few of the top battles and who has the early edge after 10 days or so of camp and one preseason game.

26. Tennessee Titans' revamped offensive line is a work in progress in training camp -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans thought they had at least one starter on the offensive line ready to go in the same spot for the 2023 season.

Then the NFL suspended right tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere for the first six games of the season.

27. Titans give QB Ryan Tannehill possibly his best birthday gift yet in Hopkins -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The Tennessee Titans gave Ryan Tannehill just about the best birthday gift an NFL team can, even if his present came a bit early.

Who wouldn't want a three-time All-Pro wide receiver just in time for training camp, especially a quarterback entering the final year under contract? Tannehill's smile made clear Wednesday during the Titans' first full practice of training camp how excited he is having DeAndre Hopkins on board.

28. Titans go to camp with Tannehill, Henry in final year of their deals -

The Titans have a new GM after ending the 2022 season on a seven-game skid that kept them out of the playoffs for the first time since 2018.

A second straight injury-riddled season cost the Titans a third straight AFC South title. Now the franchise is rebuilding as quickly as possible.

29. Titans’ Petit-Frere among 4 suspended by NFL for gambling -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The NFL suspended three players indefinitely Thursday for violating the league's gambling policy and a fourth was sidelined for six games.

Isaiah Rodgers and Rashod Berry of the Indianapolis Colts along with free agent Demetrius Taylor received indefinite suspensions through at least this season for betting on NFL games in 2022. They won't be able to seek reinstatement until the 2023 season ends.

30. Titans' new coordinator faces challenge of fixing one of NFL's worst offenses -

NASHVILLE (AP) — Tim Kelly has a challenging task in his first season as the Tennessee Titans ' offensive coordinator.

31. Titans drafting another QB deja vu for vet Ryan Tannehill -

NASHVILLE (AP) — The final year of his current NFL contract is not a topic Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill will discuss.

Yes the quarterback who turns 35 in July noticed the Titans drafted a quarterback for a second straight year. This time, the franchise traded up to No. 33 to take Kentucky's Will Levis, its highest selection used at quarterback since taking the man Tannehill replaced at No. 2 overall in 2015.

32. Titans' new GM uses all NFL draft picks to fix bad offense -

NASHVILLE (AP) — Improving one of the NFL's worst offenses wound up the focus of Tennessee general manager Ran Carthon 's first NFL draft.

So much so that he used all of his picks on offense, a first for this franchise since the NFL switched to a seven-round draft in 1994.

33. Titans take Northwestern O-lineman Skoronski at No. 11 -

NASHVILLE (AP) — Only four NFL teams allowed more sacks last season than the Tennessee Titans.

That made protecting the quarterback better a top priority with Northwestern offensive tackle Peter Skoronski the easy choice Thursday night for the Titans at No. 11 overall in the NFL draft.

34. Titans, new GM need O-linemen, pass catchers in NFL draft -

NASHVILLE (AP) — Everyone trying to figure out what the Tennessee Titans will do with the 11th overall pick in the draft points to one position: quarterback.

Ryan Tannehill turns 35 in July after ending last season on injured reserve with an ankle problem that cost him five games, including the last three, while the Titans endured a brutal close to the season and fell short of a third straight AFC South title. He also is in the final year of a contract that's set to pay him $27 million and cost $36.6 million against the salary cap.

35. Lack of draft picks, cap room put Titans in a draft-day bind -

The case for the Titans not drafting a quarterback early in this year’s draft comes down to this: Just how much are the Titans rebuilding in 2023. Ryan Tannehill and Derrick Henry are both still on the roster and expected to once again be the of the offense.

36. Titans add DE Arden Key, OL Daniel Brunskill -

The Tennessee Titans have agreed on a $21 million, three-year contract with defensive end Arden Key, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press on Tuesday.

The person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because signings can't be announced until Wednesday, said the deal includes $13 million in guaranteed money.

37. Titans, offensive lineman Dillard agree to 3-year deal -

The Tennessee Titans and offensive lineman Andre Dillard agreed to a three-year, $29 million contract on Monday, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press.

38. Top Davidson County commercial sales for June 2022 -
